Product Overview

What Is LGP?

LGP is a broad-spectrum powder preservative developed for water-containing personal care formulations.

Two Complementary Preservative Ingredients

LGP contains DMDM Hydantoin and Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate. DMDM Hydantoin is commonly used to support bacterial control, while IPBC is particularly effective against yeast and mold.
By combining the two ingredients, LGP provides broader antimicrobial coverage than either ingredient may provide alone.

We Supply LGP for Customers Looking for:

  • A practical preservative for rinse-off personal care products
  • Broad-spectrum microbial protection
  • A low-use-level preservation system
  • A cost-effective solution for high-volume production
  • An alternative source for DMDM Hydantoin/IPBC systems
  • Technical documents, samples and bulk supply from China
Project Fit

Is LGP Relevant to Your Preservative Project?

LGP is intended for buyers who already understand the DMDM Hydantoin/IPBC preservative-system concept and want to evaluate a lower-cost or second-source option.

  • You currently use Glydant Plus® Granular or a similar INCI system.
  • You are running a cost-down or second-source qualification project.
  • Your product is a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash, cleanser, wipe or another relevant personal care format.
  • You are willing to compare documents and complete formula and PET testing.

Before You Request a Quote

A preservative should not be replaced based only on its trade name or price. Products with the same INCI may still differ in composition, handling and finished-formula performance.
Share your current preservative, dosage, application, formula pH, target market and expected demand. We will help identify the appropriate next step: document review, sample testing or commercial quotation.
Preservation Function

How LGP Supports Product Preservation

Microbial contamination can affect product appearance, odor, viscosity, stability and safety. LGP combines two complementary preservation functions.

Bacterial Control Support

DMDM Hydantoin is commonly used to support control of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in water-containing formulations.

Yeast and Mold Control Support

IPBC provides strong activity against yeast, mold and fungal contamination that may contribute to product spoilage.

Complementary Broad-Spectrum Protection

The two ingredients cover different microbial groups, making LGP relevant to broad-spectrum preservation strategies at a relatively low use level.
Product Benefits

Key Benefits of LGP

01

Broad-Spectrum Preservation

LGP combines DMDM Hydantoin and IPBC to support protection against bacteria, yeast and mold in one preservative system.

This complementary combination makes it suitable for a wide range of water-containing personal care formulations.
02

Low Use Level for Better Cost Control

LGP can be evaluated at approximately 0.08–0.18%, helping manufacturers control preservative cost in high-volume products.

It is particularly relevant to shampoos, conditioners, body washes, hand washes and other rinse-off formulations.
03

Familiar System for Replacement Projects

For customers already using Glydant Plus® Granular or another DMDM Hydantoin/IPBC preservative, LGP provides a familiar system for laboratory comparison.

It can be evaluated for cost-down projects, second-source qualification and supply-chain backup planning.
04

Cost-Effective Supply from Noyain

Noyain supplies LGP as a competitively priced China-based alternative without unnecessary international brand premiums.

We support customers with samples, current technical documents, packaging information, bulk quotations and export-order communication.
Market Applications

Typical Applications of LGP

Shampoo and Conditioner

LGP is commonly used in shampoo and conditioner formulations to help protect water-based hair care products from microbial contamination.

Its low recommended use level makes it particularly suitable for high-volume hair care production where manufacturers need to balance preservation performance and formulation cost.

Body Wash and Shower Gel

Body wash and shower gel are among the most relevant applications for LGP.

These products contain high levels of water and are produced in large volumes, so an efficient, broad-spectrum and cost-effective preservative system can provide clear commercial value.

Hand Wash and Liquid Soap

LGP can be used in hand wash and liquid soap formulations to support protection against bacteria, yeast and mold during storage and consumer use.

It is well suited to everyday cleansing products that require reliable preservation and competitive raw material costs.

Facial Cleanser

LGP may be used in rinse-off facial cleansers, including gel, foam and cream cleanser formats.

For manufacturers producing mass-market or cost-sensitive cleansing products, LGP provides a practical preservative option with a familiar DMDM Hydantoin/IPBC system.

Wet Wipes

LGP may also be used in selected wet-wipe formulations to help protect the water-based liquid from microbial contamination.

Wet wipes require careful preservation because the formula remains in continuous contact with the wipe material and packaging. Final suitability should therefore be confirmed in the complete packaged product.

Selected Lotions and Creams

LGP may be considered for selected lotions, creams and other leave-on formulations.

However, leave-on applications require closer review of the product category, target market, intended dosage and applicable regulations. Noyain recommends completing regulatory assessment and preservative efficacy testing before commercial use.

Use Level

Our preliminary application guidance recommends 0.08–0.18% as a starting range.

The final use level depends on:

  • Product type
  • Formula pH
  • Water activity
  • Surfactant or emulsion system
  • Botanical extracts and other microbial nutrients
  • Packaging
  • Manufacturing hygiene
  • Target-market regulations
  • Preservative efficacy results

Contact us for current TDS and dosage guidance based on your product format and target market.

Incorporation

LGP is supplied as a white to off-white powder and is designed for incorporation into the aqueous phase of personal care formulations.

We recommend adding it with sufficient mixing during the cool-down stage. Depending on the formula, pre-dispersion or gradual addition may help improve uniform incorporation.

Before scale-up, check:

  • Powder dispersion
  • Formula clarity
  • Precipitation
  • Color
  • Odor
  • Viscosity

Contact us for current processing guidance before pilot production.

Addition Phase

We recommend adding LGP during the cool-down phase, preferably below 60°C.

Avoid unnecessary high temperatures or prolonged heating after addition. Mix until the preservative is uniformly incorporated before final pH adjustment and filling.

During pilot testing, monitor:

  • Appearance
  • pH
  • Odor
  • Viscosity
  • Dispersion
  • Formula stability

Compatible Formulation Systems

LGP can be evaluated in common water-containing personal care systems, including:

  • Anionic surfactant systems
  • Nonionic surfactant systems
  • Cationic conditioner systems
  • Shampoo and body wash bases
  • Facial cleanser systems
  • Liquid soap formulations
  • Emulsions
  • Wet-wipe liquids

It may be used with common humectants, thickeners, emulsifiers, conditioning ingredients and water-soluble functional ingredients.

Compatibility must be confirmed in the complete finished formula.

Stability Check

We recommend monitoring the following parameters under accelerated and real-time stability conditions:

  • pH
  • Color
  • Odor
  • Viscosity
  • Clarity
  • Precipitation
  • Emulsion stability
  • Packaging interaction
  • Microbial quality
  • Preservative efficacy

The preservative system should be tested in the final formula rather than evaluated only from the raw material specifications.

Packaging Suggestion

Use clean, well-sealed packaging that limits contamination during filling, storage and consumer use.

For water-rich formulations and wet wipes, packaging design can significantly affect preservative performance.

We recommend checking:

  • Package seal
  • Closure design
  • Consumer-use contamination risk
  • Compatibility with the formula
  • Long-term product stability

Noyain provides current packaging, storage and handling information for LGP upon request.

Kind Tips

Formulation Precautions

Temperature Control

We recommend adding LGP during the cool-down phase, preferably below 60°C.
Avoid unnecessary high heat or prolonged thermal exposure after addition. Confirm preservative performance using the actual production process.

pH and Buffer Design

LGP may generally be evaluated within approximately pH 3.0–9.0.
A broad pH range does not guarantee equal performance in every formula. Confirm efficacy at the actual finished-product pH and under the intended storage conditions.

Compatibility Screening

Carefully evaluate LGP in formulas containing:

  • High levels of surfactants
  • Cationic conditioning ingredients
  • High-electrolyte systems
  • Botanical extracts
  • Proteins
  • Sugars
  • Starches
  • Highly reactive ingredients
  • Complex fragrance systems

Monitor precipitation, clarity, color, odor, viscosity and emulsion stability.

Preservative and Microbial Control

LGP provides broad-spectrum preservation support through the combination of DMDM Hydantoin and IPBC.However, preservative performance depends on the complete formula, dosage, pH, manufacturing hygiene, packaging and consumer-use conditions. No preservative should be considered effective solely on the basis of its recommended dosage.
